Another year gone by… is it just me, or did it fly by for you too?
How has the year been for you? Do you remember making those pesky resolutions back in January—the ones about all the things you wanted to achieve? How's that list feeling now that we're in December?
If you're one of those people who actually checked off everything on that list—kudos to you. Honestly, you don't need to read any further. You've done really well, so go celebrate it.

But if you're one of those (many) people who lost that list somewhere along the way and are now wishing you had done a bit more… read on. First of all, kudos to you for even being here. What sets you apart from those who didn't achieve what they wanted and decided to do nothing about it, is that you are thinking, reflecting, and still pushing yourself. So celebrate that.
Taking Stock
When everything is sitting in our head, it can feel like a lot. So, let's take stock of where you were in January, where you are now in December, and what the gap looks like. Try this simple exercise:

Now that you can see everything in front of you, let's dig deeper.
List all the reasons you didn't achieve what you wanted—even if the reason is simply, "I got lazy."

Now go back to your "What got lost somewhere in between" list and rate each item based on how important it actually is for you—from 1 to 5 (1 = not very important, 5 = super important).
Then rate each reason you wrote down in the same way. And yes, let's call them excuses instead of reasons, because that's exactly what they are. The sooner you recognise them as excuses, the easier it becomes to let them go.
The real question is this:
If something on your list is a 5 in importance, are your excuses really important enough to hold it back?
It always comes down to how much you actually want something.
So, if you didn't achieve something you hoped for this year, there's absolutely no need to beat yourself up. You simply re-determine. Because once you become aware of your excuses, they lose their power. And that makes it so much easier to break free from them and move towards what truly matters to you.
