The Role of the Mother as the Holder of the Family Nervous System

I would like to take a moment to honour all Women & especially Mothers everywhere. 

A family is a complex organism much like the human body. The body has a nervous system and the mother is the holder of the family nervous system. She maintains cohesion and coherence with a variety of roles for the well-being of her family. If you are a mother, here are some of those roles we honour you for:

  1. Nurturing Bonds: serving as the primary caregiver, strengthening emotional connections, providing a sense of security, and intuitively understanding & meeting the needs of each of the members of your family.
  2. Communication Hub: acting as the central point of communication, providing information, resolving conflicts, and working toward understanding within your family.
  3. Emotional Regulation: being the emotional anchor, offering support & guidance – especially during times of stress, teaching resilience & coping skills, and supporting everyone’s mental & emotional well-being.
  4. Organisational Skills: juggling multiple responsibilities from chores & cooking to coordinating schedules & activities.
  5. Adaptability & Flexibility: constantly adapting to change & handling challenges to provide stability and security for your family.
  6. Selflessness & Sacrifice: prioritising the needs of your children above your own for their health & happiness.

With all that on your plate, I know it’s sometimes hard for you to maintain your own nervous system. Here is a list of self-care activities to remind you of the things that can help you to reset your own nervous system so you can continue to be the best you and Mother that you are!
