Helping More Families Find Inclusive Swimming Lessons
BGi.uk is pleased to be supporting SEN UK Swimming in the growth of its national directory of specialist Special Educational Needs (SEN) swimming teachers, helping more families across the UK access inclusive swimming opportunities for their children.
In the UK, 7 in 10 children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities cannot swim 25 metres. SEN UK Swimming is working to change this by helping more children and young people access swimming teachers who are confident, knowledgeable and equipped to meet their individual needs.
One of the ways the charity is tackling this challenge is through its national directory of specialist SEN swimming teachers. The directory helps parents identify teachers who have completed recognised SEN training and have the skills needed to support learners with additional needs.
Although registrations are completed by individual swimming teachers, SEN UK Swimming encourages swim schools to share the opportunity with all eligible members of their team. Having multiple teachers listed on the directory can significantly improve a swim school’s visibility to parents searching for inclusive swimming provision, while also making it easier for families to identify the expertise available within the organisation.
BGi.uk recognise the importance of this initiative and want to ensure that the swimming teachers they support have the opportunity to be included. By growing the directory, more families will be able to find suitable local provision while swim schools can increase their visibility to parents seeking specialist support.”
