Feelings and emotions carry weight in our lives and often put us under unnecessary pressure.
There must be a way to feel more relaxed, you ask — and it's a common question, usually followed by yet another attempt to use yet another app or tool to accomplish this goal.
The secret lies closer than you think: in your mind, this wonderful and powerful tool of creativity and resources.
So how can your mind facilitate more relaxation in your life?
Imagine this: you are walking in the park and suddenly you see something strange happening.

Your eyes clearly notice someone in the distance.
This person approaches you more and more, and you start to feel concerned as it is getting dark.
You begin entering a state of fear and discomfort.
Your stress levels rise and now you feel it's too late to go back.
What should I do? you ask.
Suddenly, you are able to see clearly and you notice that, after all, it's just an elderly woman returning home from work.
You start to relax and all your fears fade away.
What happened here?
There was no real menace, but your brain assumed there were robbers or people who could hurt you or threaten your life in some way.
This happened entirely inside your mind, whilst your body was busy orchestrating all the chemicals that allowed you to experience even more fear and stress.
You might say that your brain was the orchestra conductor of your own scary movie.
Now you see where we are going: your mind is the key and the sole force responsible for the ease and relaxation you experience in your life.
Not spas (though they might feel good), not travelling (though it can be fun), and not anything external really — because your mind creates meaning from all your experiences, whether lived or imagined.
It's your imagination that kicks in when you are unable to clearly discern what lies ahead: future events, plans, wishes… all of them live in the future and can cause havoc or bliss in your mind.
Let's make this easy for you to practise and gain more tranquillity and relaxation in your life.
Every time you feel strong emotions or experience anxiety or stress, place your feet firmly on the ground and notice what's beneath you: the earth that is currently holding and supporting you. This is your planet, your beautiful sphere full of excitement and opportunities.

Then breathe deeply a couple of times and do a reality check.
Start by saying something along these lines: I'm present. I'm safe. I'm calm. And continue to breathe deeply, releasing all your fears and worries.
After a couple of minutes, notice how you feel.
Better? Calmer? More at ease?
I'm certain you are feeling much better now.
But nothing really happened outside your busy and creative mind.
You just lived a simulated reality with an extra dose of emotion.
You were always safe. There was no real danger — and no real pleasure — in what your imagination was projecting inside.
Now you know that your mind is the key to living a relaxed and enjoyable life, independently of your external circumstances.
And you may need a bit of help to make a permanent shift in the way you usually see life and attribute meaning to real or imagined events.
That help may come from meditation, journalling, psychotherapy or hypnotherapy.

These are all good ways to create new habits, new beliefs and new ways to embrace life more deeply — as you deserve.
Don't let your mind work against you. Make it your best friend and ally.
After all… the magic happens when you feel relaxed.
