Exercise: Remember them in a ceremonial way.
Month 10 brought Dia de los Muertos, and with it, a deeply emotional journey. I had planned to begin preparations on the 31st, but discovered that the pet celebration was on the 27th, that very day. Panic set in. I could not bear the idea of Chai returning to visit and finding no ofrenda waiting for her.
I built the altar slowly, through tears and overwhelm. I bought her favourite foods, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, foods I had not purchased since the last day I cooked for her. Even these mundane tasks felt monumental.
I chose marigolds, candles, her photos, her paw print. I painted her rainbow bridge. Each act brought both agony and connection.
Throughout the week, I created, cooked, painted, wrote, and revisited memories I was not sure I could face. I spoke to her. I cried endlessly. I let myself honor her in the most loving way I knew.
The week reshaped me. It forced stillness and reflection. It reminded me that I could feel her presence, even if not physically. It also showed me how much I had changed since she passed.

Exercise for October:
Create a small ceremony. An altar, a photo display, a candle. Something that honours your loved one or pet. Sit with the memories. Eat their favourite food. Talk to them.
