Sense Memory

It was the spring of 1988. I can remember getting off the school bus in the morning and running into my primary school. The gardens had just been freshly mowed and we would be able to play outside at all our break times. My favourite time of the day. As soon as the break bell would ring, we would run and get our chocolate Penguin biscuit. I would eat it in a unique way, nibbling off the chocolate around the side first, followed by opening it in half and licking the inside chocolate off. Then I would run outside and lie on the grass or do cartwheels and handstands.

The sun would gently warm us up.

We were switching from winter uniform to summer uniform and the dresses had a lighter feel to them. You knew summer was around the corner. Everyone was happy, sitting and playing in groups, laughter filled the air. I remember the smell of sun cream on my 2-year-old daughter’s body. I remember driving to Wales and telling my dad I felt car sick and him not believing me until I threw up everywhere over my pink velour tracksuit. The smell of sickness stayed with us along the rest of the windy roads to get to my grandparents’ home. All of our senses bring back memories, good and bad. But how often do we recognise them at the moment, stop and smell the roses? Listen to what’s happening around us.

It’s about being Simple!

Structure your life in a different way, even small tweaks are positive steps at the beginning of the road to simplicity
Imagine not having to worry about everything. Put your energy into the things that count and nothing else.
Materialism is around us 24/7. Instead of what you want, take a look at what you need.
Purpose should be at the forefront. What is your purpose at the moment? Not the bigger picture purpose, but how you want to spend your time at that moment.
Learn to let go, remove all the surplus in your life.
