Embracing Transformation Through Body Psychotherapy

"Being on the edge" is a phrase that resonates deeply with many of us. It signifies that we are nearing a major turning point in our lives—whether that means making a tough decision, letting go of old habits, or stepping into something new. All is well, but somehow overwhelming, and you just cannot handle it.

OR, it's a moment when you sense that you're on the brink of falling. Everything seems poised to unravel. Fear seeps in, causing your body to tense up, your mind to shut down, and suddenly, you find yourself dissociating. Memories become hazy, and you're merely in survival mode. This can lead to intense feelings of anger and unease, leaving you feeling disconnected from yourself.

While this experience can often feel unsettling, it carries an underlying possibility for growth and transformation. This is the time when if led gently and knowingly by a therapist, it can be a doorway to your hidden inner treasure. Underneath all that 'mud' is a real you. If this door is gently opened, learning about your masks, the way of why and how you compensate can be attained. And eventually you feel lighter, newer but somehow still the same.

The Edge of Change

I remember a time in my life when I found myself sitting on the edge, contemplating a significant change. Making decisions was not easy: the brain is saying one thing, and the body is giving different signals. Confusing, right? Who should you listen to? The brain is smart, they say. But the body holds your memory on the subject and gives a story. If you push your body because you're listening to your brain, at some point it will give up on you.

The feelings of uncertainty were overwhelming, and I felt as though I was teetering between a breakthrough and a breakdown. For those of us who have experienced trauma, this sensation can be particularly acute. The chronic feeling of helplessness can make engaging in new situations incredibly challenging.

At this "edge," emotions can surge and swell, leaving us feeling vulnerable and exposed. It is precisely in these moments of discomfort that the potential for profound growth lies. This is when your body is showing signs that you are on the edge of not being able to function. This is when tantrums come. This is when you feel overwhelmed with different fluctuations of the emotions. This is the crack that opens for the new light.

The Power of Support

This is the moment when seeking support becomes crucial. The journey of transformation doesn't have to be taken alone. In fact, it is often through the connection with others that we can find the strength to navigate these tumultuous waters. Remember my friend, connection is our primary need. The first one that we receive. The one that we as humans depend on. So don't lie to yourself, as I do and did for a very long time, how 'alone' is my way, the only way.

Support in body psychotherapy is a dynamic, holistic process that helps individuals build resilience, re-establish a sense of safety, and reconnect with their bodies—an essential step in healing from trauma.

As someone who has walked this path, I can attest to the power of body psychotherapy. My name is Kristina, and I am passionate about helping others through this transformative approach. Rewiring the Nervous System

One of the main goals of body psychotherapy is to rewire the nervous system. Many of us carry the weight of past traumas, which can manifest as physical tension, emotional distress, or a disconnection from our bodies. Through body-centered techniques, we can release these old patterns, restore balance, and build emotional resilience.

  • Release Old Patterns: By engaging with our bodies, we can identify and release patterns that keep us stuck. This may involve exploring sensations, movements, and emotions that arise during sessions, allowing us to process and let go of what no longer serves us. I will be gentle if you allow me to take you on this journey. We Do Not dig, but work with what is already present.
  • Restore Balance: Body psychotherapy encourages a return to equilibrium. When we reconnect with our bodies, we can better understand our needs and boundaries, fostering a sense of safety that is often disrupted by trauma.
  • Build Emotional Resilience: Life will always present challenges, but through body psychotherapy, we can cultivate the tools needed to navigate them. By developing a deeper mind-body connection, we learn to respond to stressors with greater awareness and strength. And most importantly, we regulate your nervous system so that those triggers do not catapult you out of yourself.

Embracing the Journey

Sitting on the edge can be a daunting experience, but it is also an opportunity for growth and transformation. If you find yourself at this precipice, I encourage you to seek support. Whether through body psychotherapy or another form of healing, remember that you do not have to navigate this journey alone.

Becoming a mother in a foreign country, with very little support, led me to my current educational background in Integral Body Psychotherapy. In 2017. I took a course on Natural Parenting. This helped me greatly to understand my daughter better, and to raise her with the knowledge and understanding of her needs for healthy striving. I continued with the Early Development studies program to get to know myself deeper, and my unconscious mind, formed through experiences and relationships. This was the first level in education for therapists of Integral Body Psychotherapy. I continued with Program OR, Personal Development that lasted 4 years, which brought me a deep transformative experience and personal growth. This is the second level of Comprehensive personal development and education for Integral Body Psychotherapists. Parallel to my Personal Development program I have taken a course in Therapeutic Practice – a two-year program that is conducted with the 3rd and 4th year of Personal Development Program with an explicit education in basic psychotherapy skills and introduction on how to work with clients. Continuing with a two-year Degree in Advanced Therapeutic Training, which consists of very intensive explicit education in physical psychotherapy skills conducted by trainers and supervisors as well as foreign trainers and supervisors Heiner Steckel, Walid Daw and Olaf Trapp. My experiential practice and personal inquiry enhances my capacity to respond to clients at an implicit emotional and relational level.
